Communication through Daily Routines: Bath time

Did you know that you can work on language and communication development during bath time and other bathroom routines??


Daily routines provide some of the best opportunities to teach our children language! Check out the list below of words, phrases, and short sentences that you can use during bath time. Although some of these words may be more difficulty for your child to pronounce, they will be able to demonstrate understanding by identifying/fining/pointing to the names object and they may begin to attempt to imitate through sounds or word approximations!


Object Words: tub, water, bubbles, soap, towel, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, body parts (head, feet, etc.), toys (boat, duck, quack, etc.), potty

Action Words: wash, scrub, dry, pour, pop, blow, brush, splash, flush, wipe

Concept Words: in, out, wet, dirty, clean, all gone, all done, empty, full

Sounds & Phrases:

  • Time for bath.

  • Fill it up.

  • Wash my face.

  • Bubbles go up.

  • In a cup.

  • Water goes out.

  • Water on. Pshhhh.

  • In the tub. Spash!

  • Wash my hair.

  • Blow bubbles.

  • All done. Get out.

  • Bye-bye water. All gone

  • Water in the tub.

  • Toys in. More toys in.

  • Bubbles. Pop-pop-pop.

  • Pour water in.

  • Dry my belly. Dry my back. Dry my hair.

  • Brush my teeth.

  • Squeeze the toothpaste.

  • Flush the potty.

  • Wash hands.

  • Wipe face.
