What Is Feeding Therapy?
Feeding therapy helps children who struggle with eating, chewing, or trying new foods. Therapists use play, sensory exploration, and oral-motor exercises to build comfort with textures and improve skills for safe, confident eating. A child who once gagged at soft foods might first touch, then smell, lick, and finally taste — at a pace that feels safe.
Teachers may notice your child avoids snack time or takes too long to finish lunch. Parents may see mealtime stress at home or family events. If this sounds familiar, feeding therapy can help.
Feeding therapy also helps kids with a medical or developmental history:
- Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
- Sensory Difficulties
- Oral-motor delays or dysphagia
- Prematurity or NICU history
- Difficulty gaining weight
Every child has a different story. We’ll meet your child right where they are and move at a pace that feels safe.

Who It Helps
Feeding challenges show up in many ways. Some kids only eat beige foods. Others avoid mixed textures like soups or casseroles. Some fear choking. Others chew slowly and tire out before finishing a snack. We support children who:
Common reasons families reach out include:
If you see several of these, it’s a good time to get help. Schedule an evaluation and we’ll take a careful, kind look to understand what’s going on, answer your questions, and guide you toward the right support.

Speech Therapy
Speech therapy is an important part of our feeding program because the muscles used for talking are the same ones children rely on for chewing, swallowing, and safely exploring new foods. Our SLPs help strengthen these oral-motor skills, improve coordination, and oral motor control so eating feels easier and more comfortable. They also address sensory responses, pacing, and communication at the table, helping children express needs, reduce mealtime stress, and build confidence with every step.

What to Expect
From your first phone call to your child’s first clear word or confident sentence, we’re here to guide you through every step. Here’s what the process looks like:
- 1
Free Consultation
We begin with a quick phone conversation to learn about your child’s feeding history, mealtime routines, and your goals as a parent. You can share concerns, ask questions, and get a sense of whether our feeding therapy program is the right match for your family.
- 2
Initial Feeding Evaluation
Your child meets with a licensed speech therapist for a thorough oral-motor and sensory evaluation. We observe how your child chews, sips, swallows, explores textures, and responds to different foods. Parents are included throughout this step — your insight helps us understand the full picture and shape the plan in a meaningful way.
- 3
Individualized Treatment Plan
After the evaluation, your therapist creates a customized feeding plan with clear, achievable goals based on your child’s strengths and needs. We’ll walk you through what each goal means, why it matters, and how therapy will help. Collaboration is key — your voice and preferences guide the direction of care.
- 4
Insurance & Scheduling
If you plan to use insurance, our front office team handles this step for you. We keep you updated throughout the process so you’re never left guessing about timelines or next steps.
- 5
Ongoing Feeding Therapy
Once therapy begins, your child attends one-on-one sessions focused on building safe, confident eating skills. Sessions use gentle, child-led strategies — exploring foods, strengthening oral-motor skills, improving posture, and reducing mealtime stress. Parents receive regular updates, guidance for home practice, and support so progress continues between sessions.
Our Team & Approach
At Allison’s Therapy Corner, parents trust our calm style and steady coaching. You’ll see us celebrate small wins and speak with kindness. We document progress and adjust goals as your child grows. You’ll always know what we’re working on and why.
