Speech Therapy

There’s nothing like hearing your child say “I love you” for the first time. At Allison’s Therapy Corner, we help children find their voices — whether that means saying their first words, expressing emotions, or chatting confidently with friends.

Our speech-language pathologists (SLPs) make learning to talk feel like play. Through games, stories, songs, and laughter, your child builds the skills to communicate clearly and confidently — one session at a time.

What Is Speech Therapy?

Speech therapy helps children communicate, connect, and feel understood. It covers more than just pronunciation — it’s about helping your child express thoughts, understand others, and enjoy conversations that build connection and confidence.

Speech therapy may focus on:

  • Articulation: helping your child pronounce sounds clearly and naturally.
  • Expressive & Receptive Language Development: learning to understand and use words, sentences, and stories.
  • Social communication: learning how to take turns, read cues, and share stories.
  • Voice and resonance: teaching healthy voice habits and breath control.
  • Fluency: reducing stuttering and building smooth, confident speech.
  • Augmentative & Alternative Communication (AAC): provides tools like pictures, signs, or devices to help children communicate when speaking is difficult.

Many parents come to us because their child is struggling to be understood — maybe they replace sounds (“wabbit” for “rabbit”), repeat words when nervous, or get frustrated trying to explain what they need.

Speech therapy helps your child communicate clearly, express their thoughts, and connect with others. At our Keller / Fort Worth and Grapevine clinics, we make learning to talk, listen, and share ideas feel like play.

Common reasons families reach out include:

Augmentative & Alternative Communication (AAC) includes all the ways we communicate without speaking. For children with significant speech or language challenges, AAC tools or devices can make communication clearer and more accessible across home, school, and daily life. Families also reach out for help with speech sounds, language delays, social communication, and stuttering.

  • We’ve worked with many families who’ve seen incredible changes once their child starts communicating more easily. Every milestone — every new word — is something to celebrate.

Feeding Therapy

Feeding therapy is often part of our speech program — because the same muscles used for speaking are also used for eating, chewing, and swallowing.

Some children find mealtime stressful. They may refuse certain textures, gag on foods, or stick to a short list of “safe” meals. Others may have low muscle tone that makes chewing difficult or tiring.

Our feeding therapy helps make eating enjoyable again — for both child and parent.

Feeding therapy can help if your child:

  • Refuses certain textures or entire food groups
  • Gags, coughs, or chokes during meals
  • Eats a limited number of foods
  • Has difficulty gaining weight
  • Shows frustration or fear at the table

We take a gentle, sensory-based approach, introducing new foods through play, exploration, and positive experiences.
Sometimes it starts with touching or smelling a food before ever tasting it. Every small step builds comfort and confidence.

Our goal is to reduce stress around eating and bring joy back to family meals.

How It Works at Allison’s Therapy Corner

Every child’s journey begins with a personalized evaluation. We start with gentle, child-friendly activities to understand how your child communicates, listens, and interacts. From there, our team creates a therapy plan that matches your child’s strengths, challenges, and personality. Our speech therapy sessions are:

  • One-on-one

Your child gets focused support and feels comfortable in a calm setting.

  • Interactive and engaging

We use toys, books, games, and movement to help children stay motivated while they learn.

  • Family-focused

Parents are encouraged to watch, ask questions, and learn simple strategies they can use at home.

  • Goal-driven

We help your child take meaningful steps toward clear speech, stronger language skills, and more confident communication.

You might see your child practicing lip movements while blowing bubbles, using a mirror to shape specific sounds, describing pictures from a favorite storybook, or playing a simple game to build turn-taking and conversation skills. It may look like play, but every activity is chosen with purpose — supporting real progress while keeping your child engaged and encouraged.

Whether your child learns best through movement, quiet activities, or hands-on exploration, we create a space where they can succeed and feel proud of their growth.

What to Expect

From your first phone call to your child’s first clear word or confident sentence, we’re here to guide you through every step. Here’s what the process looks like:

  • 1

    Free Consultation

We begin with a quick phone conversation to learn about your child’s communication needs and your goals as a parent. You can share any concerns, ask questions, and get a sense of whether our team is the right match for your family.

  • 2

    Initial Speech & Language Evaluation

Your child meets with a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) for a thorough evaluation. We observe how your child communicates, listens, uses words, understands directions, and interacts during simple activities. Parents are included throughout this step — your insight helps us see the full picture and shape the plan in a meaningful way.

  • 3

    Individualized Treatment Plan

After the evaluation, your SLP creates a customized therapy plan with clear, achievable goals based on your child’s strengths and needs. We’ll walk you through the plan so you understand what each goal means, why it matters, and how therapy will help. Collaboration is priority — your voice and preferences guide the direction of care.

  • 4

    Insurance & Scheduling

We’ll verify your insurance benefits, explain what your plan covers, and help you choose a schedule that works for your family. Before services begin, you’ll receive a Good Faith Estimate (GFE) that clearly outlines your benefits and expected costs. Our team handles the paperwork so you can focus on your child’s communication growth—not logistics.

  • 5

    Ongoing Speech Therapy

Once therapy begins, your child attends one-on-one sessions with their SLP. Sessions are engaging, supportive, and tailored to your child’s interests — using books, toys, games, visuals, or movement to practice new skills. Parents receive regular updates, simple at-home strategies, and guidance to help generalize skills across environments, ensuring progress carries over into everyday routines at home, school, and in the community.
